We’re creeping up to fall, and it’s no secret that Oregon’s famously rainy weather will soon be in full swing. Riding a motorcycle is a thrilling experience no matter the weather and by prioritizing safety, you can continue riding through the rainier months ahead.  At Timber Town Harley-Davidson, we want to make the most of your riding experience and prepare motorcyclists for the challenges that autumn can bring. Choose the Right Riding Gear:

It’s important to stay dry while riding your Harley-Davidson, and this means having the proper gear. Investing in warm, waterproof riding gear isn’t only more comfortable; it’s also safer. You can choose from a wide variety of weather appropriate riding gear from our Motorclothes department.

Tires and Traction:

Rain-slick roads can be dangerous if your tires are in bad condition. Be sure your motorcycle’s tires have good tread depth for better traction. Consider switching to tires that are made specifically for riding in wet weather. The Timber Town service department would be happy to help you!

Adjust Your Riding Style:

Beginner riders should adjust their riding style as the weather changes. Reduce your speed, increase your following distance, and avoid sudden movements. Remember to use smooth and gradual inputs on the throttle, brakes, and steering. When cornering, gently lean with the curve without using aggressive maneuvers. Be aware that road markings and painted lines will be extra slippery when wet.

Be Visible:

Rain, fog, and shorter daylight hours can significantly reduce visibility on the road. Make sure your motorcycle’s lights are working correctly. Consider using auxiliary lights and reflective gear to increase your visibility to other motorists.

Plan Your Rides:

Choose well-maintained roads that are less likely to flood or be covered in debris. Pick shorter rides if the weather is particularly harsh.

Check the Forecast:

Before you hit the road on your Harley, always check the weather forecast. Keep an eye out for rain, fog, wind, and drops in temperature. Stay informed about changing weather conditions during your ride.
