ABOUT THE BASIC RIDER TRAINING COURSE:
The Basic Rider Training course combines classroom instruction and on-cycle riding experience. Motorcycle safety and safe riding habits are emphasized. Motorcycles and helmets are provided. It begins with the basics, such as turning, shifting, and braking then moves on to more advanced street riding skills and emergency maneuvers. In order to receive your course completion card, you must attend all classroom and range sessions and pass knowledge and skill tests. If you are under 18, a parent or legal guardian must sign the required waiver form before the first class.
WHAT TO BRING
- DOT-approved helmet (we provide one if you don’t own one)
- Eye protection (eyeglasses and sunglasses are acceptable)
- Long sleeves or a jacket
- Full-finger gloves
- Long pants
- Low-heeled shoes or boots that cover your ankle and offer good traction
- Rain gear/sunscreen (Classes are conducted rain or shine)
- We encourage you to bring energy snacks or drinks
- Motorcycles are provided in the BRT
- A driver’s license or driving permit (Does not have to be a motorcycle permit)

FRIDAY: 6 PM-8:30 PM, AT Timber Town HARLEY-DAVIDSON®:
Classwork and textbook work: H-D® experience, product, and gear. Unit 3, Preparing to ride. Unit 4, Wheels in Motion.
SATURDAY, 7:45AM-NOON, ON THE COURSE AT CHEMEKETA CC TEST COURSE:
Basics: operating the controls, starting the engine, getting underway, shifting and stopping, entering turns, weaving, and more basics.
SATURDAY 1 PM-3:30 PM, AT Timber Town HARLEY-DAVIDSON®:
Textbook: Unit 5, Mental motorcycling. Unit 6, Cornering with confidence. Unit 7, Maximum braking and swerving.
SUNDAY 8 AM-NOON, ON THE COURSE AT CHEMEKETA CC TEST COURSE:
Weaving and changing lanes, stopping quickly, riding through curves, straightening then braking, low-speed turning, swerving, negotiating curves, offset cone weaving, more swerving, quick stop exercise, cornering proficiency, sharp turns, and traffic interaction.
