Taking Care of Your Motorcycle – Harley-Davidson Maintenance Schedule

Whether you ride a Street Glide or a Tri Glide Ultra, you want to take care of your bike. That means keeping up with your motorcycle’s Harley-Davidson maintenance schedule. Our Salem service center can help you with that. Here’s a list of things our highly trained technicians do when complying with your motorcycle maintenance schedule.

Harley-Davidson Maintenance Schedule – 1,000 Miles

Your bike is still new at this point. So, we’re just making sure there are no problems.

  • Check clutch adjustment
  • Change engine oil & oil filter
  • Check/adjust the primary chain
  • Inspect brake pads and discs for wear
  • Inspect fuel valves, lines, and fittings for leaks
  • Check brake fluid reservoir levels and condition
  • Inspect the exhaust system for leaks, cracks, and loose or missing fasteners or heat shields
  • Check the tightness of all critical fasteners: hand controls, brake system, axle nuts, front fork components, riser, and handlebars

Harley-Davidson Maintenance Schedule – 2,500 Miles

Now the motorcycle is starting to get “broken in”, so we’ll check for a little more wear and tear.

  • Inspect transmission lubricant
  • Inspect brake pads and discs for wear
  • Inspect tire pressure and inspect the tread
  • Inspect oil lines and brake system for leaks
  • Inspect fuel valves, lines, and fittings for leaks
  • Inspect operation of throttle and Enrichener controls
  • Inspect the operation of all electrical equipment and switches

Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Maintenance Schedule – 5,000 Miles

  • Inspect spark plugs
  • Check wheel spoke tightness
  • Check the front fork bearing adjustment
  • Check and clean battery connections
  • Check tire pressure and inspect the tread
  • Check ignition timing (XL only) and vacuum hose
  • Check the operation of all electrical equipment and switches

Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Maintenance Schedule – 7,500 Miles

This check is identical to the 2,500-mile maintenance schedule.

Harley-Davidson Maintenance Schedule – 10,000 Miles

You’ve logged a lot of miles on our Portland roads at this point. So, we’ll add a few more items to the maintenance list.

  • Check and adjust the belt
  • Lube the speedometer cable
  • Change transmission lubricant
  • Check stabilizer links and engine mounts
  • Lubricate and adjust steering head bearings
  • Check and adjust the operation of the Enrichener
